Sony
Pictures Classics Acquires "3-Iron"
for North America
Award Winning
Film at the Venice Film Festival Scheduled to Make
North American Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival
New York, September
11 Sony Pictures Classics today announced the acquisition of North
American rights to Kim Ki-duk¹s extraordinary new film, 3-IRON
starring Jae Hee and Lee Seung-yun. The film was a surprise competition
entry at the 2004 Venice Film Festival and was awarded the Leone d'Argento
(Special Award for Best Direction) and the Fipresci Award
(Best Film in Competition). 3-IRON will make it¹s North American
premiere at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival.
In his eleventh
film Kim Ki-duk¹s curious point of view on ordinary life is carried
to yet another extreme in 3-IRON. The film is an absorbing story of
freedom found within the dull, domestic prisons erected by power, money
and social convention and the love that dispels the horror vacui of
emotional emptiness. Like a symphony of carefully orchestrated tunes,
Kim composes a new reality exploring yet another variation on the theme
of love one of great strength and creativity. 3-IRON is a work
of powerful silences.
