LOS ANGELES, June
2004 - Paul Colichman, Chairman of Regent Entertainment announced
today that they will release the groundbreaking political documentary
"The Hunting of the President: The Ten- Year Campaign to Destroy
Bill Clinton" directed by Harry Thomason and Nickolas Perry, at
an exclusive run at The Angelika Theatre in New York on June 18th and
in Little Rock, Arkansas on the same date. There will be a VIP premiere
in New York on Wednesday, June 16th at NYU's Skirball Center which will
be attended by former President Clinton, Susan McDougal (who have not
seen each other in over 15 years) as well as other politicos, VIPs including
Harry and Linda Bloodworth Thomason, Alec Baldwin, Robert Altman, Lauren
Hutton, Richard Belzer, Moby, Salman Rushdie, among others to be announced.
Following swiftly
on the heightened political atmosphere of the pre-election campaign
and the widespread interest in Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11,"
The Hunting of the President, based on The New York Times bestseller
of the same name by Gene Lyons and Joe Conason, explores the myths and
truths behind the ten-year campaign to systematically destroy the political
legacy of the Clintons.
Narrated by Morgan
Freeman, and using previously unreleased material, and interviews from
both sides of the beltway, this probing work focuses on the smear campaign
against Clinton from his days as Governor leading up to and including
his impeachment trial. The documentary feature will also open in exclusive
runs in Washington D.C. on June 25, in San Francisco on July 16 in Los
Angeles and Boston on July 23 and in Chicago on August 13.
"This is a
landmark film for Regent Entertainment" stated Colichman. "We
hope this will carve out a niche for our company in the arena of first
rate documentary productions and we are encouraged by the positive response
the film has already received at both the Sundance and Tribeca Film
Festivals. It has already been described as a documentary worth seeing
for its eye opening look at how disreputable characters can impact government
and how easily the mainstream media can be duped into covering scandal-smelling
leads (by Variety). Others have described it as eye opening, probing
and chilling and we are happy to present a documentary that illustrates
how over 80 million dollars of tax-payer money and countless lives were
ruined in a vindictive effort by a group of conservative fanatics who
were 'on a witch hunt' to destroy the Clintons."
The film was written and directed by Emmy and DGA Award-nominated Harry
Thomason, whose list of producing and directing credits includes "The
Fall Guy," "Lime Street," "Hearts Afire," "Women
of the House," "Evening Shade" and "Designing Women."
Thomason has also won Angel, Christopher, National Broadcasting and
National Education directing awards, among others. Along with Linda
Bloodworth, Thomason was the chairman of the 1993 Presidential Inaugural.
In 1997, Thomason directed "Saturday Night at the Summit,"
a live stage event for the Summit of World Leaders in Denver, Colorado.
Colichman, whose Regent Entertainment also co-financed the project stated,
"We believe this film will put Regent on the map in the arena of
cutting-edge documentaries. We were fortunate to have such rich subject
matter, amazing text, and a phenomenal director creating the film."
In addition to former
President Bill Clinton, dozens of political luminaries, media personalities
and many other key players appear in the film including: Senator Dale
Bumpers, Sidney Blumenthal, Everett Ham, William Rempel, Betsey Wright,
Paul Begala, Larry Patterson, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Jerry Falwell,
Janet Reno, Jeffrey Toobin, David Hale, Jim McDougal, Susan McDougal,
Claudia Riley, Ken Starr, Jonathan Alter, James Carville, Bob Woodward
and Carl Bernstein.
