Pride,
Unprejudiced
By Ray Pride
Martin
Scorsese and innumerable conspirators have struggled for almost three
decades to produce Gangs of New York, and yet it is a terrible
movie. This hellish horror of failed ambition should freeze the blood
of any artist who has held too long to a primal obsession and fears that
a life's work will be shown up as a Promethean folly. (more)

25th
Hour
Review by Leonard Klady
This may seem trite, but the 25th Hour, literally
and cinematically, follows the 24th. It also happens to be
the name of a new film directed by Spike Lee based on a book by
Daniel Benioff and adapted for the screen by the author. Anything
beyond these simple and evident truths surrounding the film is considerably
more haphazard.

15
Weeks To Oscar
Week 2, Post-Globes
by David Poland
There is little doubt
that this year's Golden Globe nominations will be somewhat of a precursor
to the Oscar nominations. After all, between The Hours, The Pianist,
About Schmidt, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Gangs of New York
and Chicago, you are certainly looking at a minimum of three nominees
for Oscar's Best Picture. A monkey could tell you that, even if his only
method of analysis was randomly throwing used banana peels at a chalkboard
of titles..

Gross
Behavior
by Leonard Klady
When
I began reviewing professionally it soon became apparent that there were
as many bad movies as good ones. But the majority of films being made
were simply mediocre - perhaps 60% of commercially released movies. And
as time has worn on, that number - admittedly difficult to quantify -
has risen closer to 70%.
