THE
ARISTOCRATS HAS THINKFILM
ROLLING IN THE AISLES
Park City, UT - January 27, 2005 -- THE ARISTOCRATS, the uproarious
comic documentary that has audiences screaming with laughter at this
year's Sundance Film Festival, has been acquired by THINKFilm, the privately
held film distributor known for its dominance in the non-fiction arena,
it was announced today by Jeff Sackman, president of ThinkFilm, and
the film's producer Peter Golden of Golden Entertainment West.
Directed by Paul Provenza, and conceived by Penn Jillette and Paul Provenza,
THE ARISTOCRATS features the greatest group of comedians ever assembled
- including George Carlin, Whoopi Goldberg, Gilbert Gottfried, Paul
Reiser, Bob Saget and nearly 100 more -- performing material which
is rarely, if ever, performed in public - a very, very dirty joke which
allows them to riff and improvise to their heart's content - giving
the audience extraordinary insight into the comic mind and the creative
process. Penn Jillette and Paul Provenza are the executive producers
of THE ARISTOCRATS. Golden is the producer and also manages Jillette
and Provenza.
The deal was negotiated on behalf of THINKFilm by Sackman and Randy
Manis, senior vice president of acquisitions and business affairs; and
on behalf of Jillette and Provenza by Ken Weinrib of Franklin,
Weinrib, Rudell and Vassallo and Peter Golden.
'I have rarely been more excited about a film and its potential,"said
Sackman. THE
ARISTOCRATS audience runs the gamut from frat boys to intellectuals,
and we're going to have a great time reaching out to both ends of the
spectrum and to everyone in between."
"We chose ThinkFilm mostly because of their name. When you have
a movie that's this funny, it's important to remind people with the
name of your distributor what they must also do," said Penn Jillette.
"I'm thrilled to be in business with ThinkFilm because of their
passion, their creativity, and mostly because I haven't heard of anyone
being screwed by them yet," said Paul Provenza.
THINKFilm
is in Sundance this year with "Murderball," which the company
financed, in the Documentary Competition. The company also received
two Oscar
nominations in the Documentary category this year, for "Born into
Brothels" and "The Story of the Weeping Camel."
A privately held film distributor with offices in New York City and
Toronto, THINKFilm represents specialized cinema at its best - bold,
business-oriented, yet fiercely and financially independent. Current
and forthcoming
releases include: Sundance Grand Jury Prize- winner PRIMER, also nominated
for four Independent Spirit Awards; THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON,
starring Oscar- winner Sean Penn and Naomi Watts; the acclaimed Cannes
acquisition MONDOVINO; the
psychological thriller KONTROLL; nd Francois Ozon's latest drama, 5
X 2.
