Review: In many ways, this is Spinal Tap meets Madonna’s Truth or Dare. If that sounds entertaining – even for those of us with no stomach for heavy metal – it should.

Len Klady: Why didn't Miramax open the film at a time when Oscar attention would have been beneficial? A year later, Hero has grossed more than $100 million internationally including a record $32 million in Japan for a non-local Asian film.

Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession (Special Screenings) - For those old enough to remember, the Z Channel was an L.A. cultural phenom with an eclectic mix of movies that embraced Oscar contenders and uncut versions of the likes of Heaven's Gate. Xan Cassavetes _ who was too young to experience it first hand _ talks to filmmakers and friends influenced by it and the mercurial personality of its programmer Jerry Harvey. (7 p.m. DGA 1.

Overnight (Special Screenings) - Remember Boondock Saints? The chronicle of Troy Duffy, an instant indie filmmaking celebrity courted and indulged by the sector who burned out quickly and wound up in the scrap heap. A fascinating portrait that uncomfortably wonders if the system created a monster or an egomaniac sewed the seeds of his own demise. (10:15 p.m. DGA 1)

Two Brothers (Special Screenings) - The stars of this saga are two Bengal tigers and a riveting yarn that takes them from birth through loss, separation and captivity and beyond. Filmmaker Jean-Jacques Annaud has a penchant for ethnographic fare that's included such past efforts as The Bear and Quest for Fire. One has to admittedly get past the silly hijinx of the film's bipods set in turn-of-the-century Siam that threatens to unbalance the feline's majesty. (1:30 p.m. DGA 1)

Men WIthout Jobs (Narrative Competition) - Two young black men amble through life with the vague notion of forming a musical group. Writer-director Mad Matthewz creates an appealing social comedy abetted by strong central performances from Bonz Malone and Ishmael Butler. Though the emphasis is light hearted, there's a poignant undercurrent that makes this one worth catching. (9:30 pm. Laemmle Sunset 5)

The Last of the First: Much like "Buena Vista Social Club" and "Standing in the Shadows of Motown," "The Last of the First" shines a spotlight on musicians' musicians who have been forgotten or overlooked.

``I think Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911 will bury us. But... I think his film will take in enough at the box office that it probably might even help us some too.''
