Don McKellar and rude ambition

Words from the Woody Allen of the 49th parallel as Childstar debuts in Canada: "I guess I have that Canadian thing—I find ambition to be an ugly characteristic. Intellectually I don't feel that way, but on a personal level... I just got back from a film festival, and when you meet those young American guys—that slouching contingent of young directors in baseball caps with their mixture of aggressive coolness and aggressive fawning. It's rude ambition. I mean, rude to other people. Politeness is a good strategy. I always say to young filmmakers, "Don't be afraid to play the Canadian card." When I go down to L.A., I always go into meetings and say that I don't know the politics down there. Why pretend to know everything?"
