Los Angeles, CA (August 20, 2007)   Strand Releasing will theatrically distribute Slipstream, a surreal psychological thriller which is Oscar ®-winner Anthony Hopkins (Best Actor, The Silence of the Lambs, 1991) first foray as writer and director in the independent film arena on October 26, 2007.  Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group (SPWAG) has acquired domestic home entertainment rights for the film. The announcement was made by Marcus Hu, Co-President of Strand, and SPWAG President, Peter Schlessel. Hopkins was recently awarded a special directing and acting prize for SLIPSTREAM at the Locarno International Film Festival.

Slipstream features an all star cast which includes Hopkins, Stella Arroyave, Michael Clarke Duncan, Fionnula Flanagan, Gavin Grazer, Christopher Lawford, Bill Lucking, Camryn Manheim, Kevin McCarthy, S. Epatha Merkerson, Lisa Pepper, Christian Slater, Jeffrey Tambor,

Aaron Tucker and John Turturro.  Stella Arroyave and Robert Katz are the producers.

Pushing the boundaries between fiction and fantasy, SLIPSTREAM is about the implosion of a man’s mind.  The film unfolds in a dreamlike, non-linear, stream-of-conscience style of storytelling with a surreal tale of one man’s journey. Felix Bonhoeffer (Hopkins) is an actor and screenwriter who has lived his life in two states of existence: reality and his own interior world.  While working on a murder-mystery screenplay, Felix becomes baffled as his characters start appearing in his life; and his life starts slipping into his characters.

Unaware that his brain is on the verge of implosion, Bonhoeffer is thrown into a vortex where his dreams, time, and reality collide. As Felix enters an increasingly whirling slipstream, he soon discovers that life is random and fortune is sightless.

“We are thrilled to be partnered with SPWAG on yet another project,” said Co-President, Marcus Hu.  “SLIPSTREAM is a visionary film with such a high caliber of talent involved; we are excited about embarking on this journey together.”

Scott Shooman, SPWAG's Executive Director of Acquisitions, states “We knew after seeing the film at the Sundance Film Festival that this was exactly the type of captivating and innovative film we were looking to acquire and distribute.  We think this film has great potential due to Hopkins’ visionary writing and directing as well as an amazing cast.”

Strand Releasing is run by Co-Presidents Jon Gerrans and Marcus Hu and is based in Culver City, CA.   Currently, Strand has in release: POISON FRIENDS, SYNDROMES AND A CENTURY, I DON'T WANT TO SLEEP ALONE and LIGHTS IN THE DUSK.
