BOARD UNVEILS RED CARPET RATINGS SERVICE
Weekly Email
Alert Will Help Parents Keep Up
To Date On Latest Film Ratings
Los Angeles - -
The Classification and Rating Administration (CARA) today announced
a handful of new tools to inform parents about movie ratings. Among
them, a weekly email alert that will make it easy for parents to get
ratings on their work and home computers or handheld devices. CARA is
calling this new email alert service Red Carpet Ratings.
Movie ratings
are determined by parents for parents with the goal of providing families
with information about movies so they can make decisions about their
childrens movie going experiences, said MPAA Chairman and
CEO Dan Glickman who oversees CARA. With todays parents
on the go, we want to make it even easier for them to keep up with the
latest film ratings. Red Carpet Ratings will go straight to parents
ensuring that as new movies come out each week, parents know what they
are rated.
The rating system,
which was established 38 years ago, includes a board made up of ten
to thirteen parents who rate movies that are voluntarily submitted to
CARA by filmmakers. CARA was set up jointly by MPAA and the National
Association of Theatre Owners (NATO). American families use these ratings
as a source of information to guide them in making choices about what
movies their children see.
"An informed
parent serves as our best ally for successful enforcement of movie ratings,
said President and CEO of NATO John Fithian. We congratulate CARA
and the MPAA on this innovative educational program."
In addition to the
new email alert service which will ensure parents can get ratings delivered
to their home or work computers or their handheld email devices, CARA
will distribute posters to retail stores and theaters to educate parents
on ratings and inform them about the Red Carpet Ratings email service.
Ensuring parents
get the latest film ratings is our main priority and Red Carpet Ratings
can help parents stay ahead of the curve, said CARAs Chairman
Joan Graves. Signing up on our website at www.filmratings.com
will allow parents to get ratings for the most currently released films
each week.
