NATIONAL
SOCIETY OF FILM CRITICS STAYS THE COURSE
"After polling its members, the National Society of Film Critics
has decided at this time to continue to vote its year-end awards. The
Society also reiterates its belief, shared by the Los Angeles Film Critics
Association and the New York Film Critics Circle, that the MPAA banning
of screeners for critics' organizations will do little to combat piracy
and much to promote films favored by the major studios at the expense
of smaller, independent fare. In the interests of the widest recognition
of excellence, a goal presumably shared by all in the film community,
we are asking once again that this ban be revoked."
