The
Most Controversial Oscar Ad Of the Year?
___________________________________
Academy
members are buzzing unhappily about with the advertisement below, created
by Miramax based on a letter that Oscar icon Robert
Wise sent to The Los Angeles Daily News last week. The ad
has run in the Los Angeles Times and Variety.
Some
members feel that this is an abuse of an important member of their community.
One industry-ite went as far as to suggest that the quality of the ad
is so poor that it might be an indicator that Miramax is now switching
allegiances to surprise DGA winner Rob Marshall after months
of pushing Martin Scorsese in every way imaginable and unimaginable.
Will
anyone actually change their vote because of this? Did Miramax actually
hire the guy who designs the ads normally seen in the National Enquirer?
Can Robert Wise sell lots of Craftmatic Adjustable Beds?
These
answers and more, as the Oscar turns...
