2003 IFP Los Angeles Film Festival
Announces New $25,000
Target Documentary Award
-- New Award Joins Annual $50,000 Target Filmmaker Award

LOS ANGELES (February 19, 2003) ­ IFP/Los Angeles Executive Director Dawn Hudson announced today that Target has established the Target Documentary Award, which will be awarded to the winning director of the Best Documentary Feature competition at the 2003 IFP Los Angeles Film Festival (Wednesday, June 11 - Saturday, June 21, 2003). The Target Documentary Award carries a $25,000 cash prize.

"Target¹s support of the festival and of emerging filmmakers has helped to serve the independent filmmaking community in tangible ways," said Hudson.

"Target has provided the means for filmmakers to achieve their goals."

"We¹ve added this new award to the existing Target Filmmaker Award to reinforce our appreciation of independent artists, and to help bring their work to a wider audience."

"This new award further supports IFP¹s mission to build a festival that is an enriching experience for filmmakers," added Rich Raddon, IFP Los Angeles¹ Film Festival Director.

Hudson previously announced that Target will again present the Target Filmmaker Award, which is awarded annually to the winning director of the Best Dramatic Feature competition at the festival. The Target Filmmaker Award carries a $50,000 cash prize, the largest cash prize bestowed by a major U.S. film festival. Last year¹s winner was Przemyslaw Reut for Paradox Lake.

Deadline for submissions for the 2003 IFP Los Angeles Film Festival is no later than Friday, February 21, 2003 for short films and music videos; and Friday, February 28, 2003 for full-length narrative and documentary features. Entries should be sent to the IFP Los Angeles Film Festival, 8750 Wilshire Blvd, 2nd Floor, Beverly Hills, CA 90211.

Films submitted for consideration to the 2003 IFP Los Angeles Film Festival must meet the following criteria:

- Must have been completed after January 1, 2002;

- Must not have had any commercial, theatrical or television play in the United States;

- Feature films must be at least 60 minutes in length and must not have been screened at other festivals or publicly in the Los Angeles area;

- All films in a language other than English must be subtitled in English for festival presentation;

- The festival will consider works-in-progress, films with temporary soundtracks, digital outputs and work that did not originate on film.

The festival gives out the following juried awards: the Target Filmmaker Award to the Best Dramatic Feature, the Target Documentary Award for the Best Documentary Feature, and Best Short Film. Additionally the festival gives out Audience awards for Best Feature and Best Short films. Over the past nine years, the IFP Los Angeles Film Festival has evolved into a world-class event, uniting emerging filmmakers with film critics, scholars, masters and the film-going public. The festival offers international films, and a variety of special events and screenings throughout Los Angeles.
