Will
the scenario of CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON be repeated at the Oscars
this year? By Marc Gadoury
HERO,
a drama epic carried out by Zhang Yimou (WIVES AND CONCUBINES), will
represent China for the next official reception of the Oscars which
will be held on March 23, 2003, in Los Angeles. If the film is retained
by the members of the Academy, HERO could be in competition in the category
of best foreign film.
HERO
puts in the high-speed motorboat large Asian film stars, that is to
say Jet Li (THE ONE), Maggie Cheung (IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE), Tony Leung
(IN THE MOOD FOR COILS), Zhang Ziyi (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON)
and Donnie Yen (BLADE II). The film was produced by Bill Kong (CROUCHING
TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON). The full-length film would have cost nearly 30
million to be produced. Miramax will distribute film in North America
and the film would be presented in Los Angeles by the end of the year.
The
film will recall the history of the first emperor of China which becomes
the target of a plot aiming to assassinate it. In 2000, CROUCHING TIGER,
HIDDEN DRAGON of Ang Lee, another Chinese méga-production, had received
10 nominations with the Oscars in addition to leaving with four trophies
of which one was the Oscar of best foreign film.
